Eating when the lists contradict each other
If you are trying to follow two elimination lists at once you have probably noticed they disagree. That is not you misreading them.
The problem in one paragraph
Published elimination lists were assembled by different people using different criteria, and they do not agree on which foods belong. When researchers compared ten low-histamine diets, only fermented foods were excluded by all of them. Most of the disagreement has never been resolved, so following two lists at once produces an impossible diet.
The pages
- Why the low-histamine food lists disagreeResearchers compared ten low-histamine diets. Only fermented foods were on every list, and 68% of excluded foods had no significant histamine.
What we will not build here
No food rating tool and no reproduced food database. The most widely used FODMAP dataset is closed and may not be reproduced or adapted, and the main histamine list may be redistributed only unmodified and free of charge, which a filterable tool on a site that carries commercial links is not. We link to both rather than rebuilding either, and the pages here are built on openly licensed published research instead.
None of this is dietary advice for you specifically. Elimination diets have real costs, nutritional and social, and they are worth doing with a dietitian rather than alone. How we work.
